DAY 2_SURVEYING
On 30th July, I accompanied an architectural technician and an architectural assistant to carry out an initial survey of a country residence in Wenvoe.
For interior surveying unscaled floorplans were drawn. A laser distance measurer was used to measure the length of the walls and the height of the ceiling. These results were then recorded on the floorplans.
For exterior surveying unscaled elevations were drawn. Once again, the length of the walls and height of the house was measured and then recorded on the drawing.
Architects tend to use gutters, overhanging slates and window sills to measure the height, as the laser needs to bounce off an object.
The architects' role in surveying is to get correct measurements of the house so preliminary proposals can be drawn up for discussion with the client.
The bottom image is a floorplan of the first floor as drawn on site.
