CASE STUDY: BRIDGEWATER THEATRE

As Austin Smith Lord regard theatres to be one of their strong points, I found it extremely interesting when Ashley, an architect of Austin Smith Lord, said that he was currently working on a project alongside fellow architects Kate and Sarah involving a theatre, and was invited to a meeting to talk about their new project, the Performing Arts Centre in Bridge water.
The Performing Arts Centre is affiliated with the college, and so it was important to make sure that the designs were to the clients taste, and the clients budget.
The architects were given £6 million to achieve this Performing Arts Centre, and are currently designing the Centre to be in fitting with such a budget.
The actual Bridge water Centre was put forward to be won three years ago, in which Austin Smith Lord came second. However, it was found last year that the previous architects could no longer do such a project, and so Austin Lord Smith have been working on it ever since.
The designs that they have achieved are extremely relevant to the architecture around Bridge water- a useful quote that Ashley said was "bad architecture is architecture which can be placed anywhere- it has to be relevant to the site". Through careful research and many meetings, it was decided that brick would be one of the many materials, due to the town's manufactured brick work.
