Simon Keeling (Loyn and Co)

I am currently attending Stanwell School in Penarth, where I study Mathematics, History, Art and Physics. I have recently completed my AS course and am planning on continuing my studies in A level, with the goal of then carrying on to study architecture at university. I am fascinated with the way a building fits into its surroundings and use of the materials used and how they weather effects the outcome of a building, as well as the effects of light and space in a building.

My general interests include football, music and squash. I am a coach of Sully colts under 12 football team and play squash with Cardiff squash club. I am also an enthusiastic artist and have had work exhibited at the local Washington art galleryI have attended a week’s work experience with Loyn & Co at the beginning of summer. I enjoy the studio atmosphere at Loyn & Co and am very interested in the personal, bespoke residential style of architecture that they produce. As most of their clients have never had experience with an architect in the construction process, the way that Loyn & Co act as consultants is also an interesting aspect of the design and development process. The architects also keep in close and regular contact with builders and specialists on ongoing sites, which have allowed me to experience the construction process first hand. This unique and personal way of treating each job and client appeals to me and has created a good environment for me to shadow the practice. I shall be shadowing them over the course of the summer holidays to build up a range of resources on the range of daily activities that go on inside and outside the office.
